Pinch, poke, you owe me a Coke!

Pinch, poke, you owe me a coke.

Have you ever heard that phrase?  It’s a silly thing some kids say (and some adults too), when two people say the exact same thing at the same time.

For example:

Person A and person B both say at the same time: “Glee is my favorite TV show.”

Then, Person A (or B) will quickly say, “Pinch, poke, you owe me a coke.”

Sometimes with kids there might be a little pinching or poking, but nothing serious.  And rarely does anyone ever really get a free coke. 🙂

  1. I heard about the phrase for the first time. It’s a little mischievous delightful phrase, isn’t it?
    Interesting, Thanks!
Can I use other drinks or things in the phrase insted of a Coke?

  2. Well I guess you could use a different drink, but then it wouldn’t rhyme. Poke and coke rhyme, so it sounds better that way. But, maybe you could change it more like: Pinch, pine, you owe me some wine. LOL. Yeah, it just doesn’t sound as good. 🙂 Thanks for your comment.

  3. well , I left a comment , it didn’t show up 🙁
so , let me do it again 🙂
” seems you are getting on posting these days , very glad to see you post a lot ! “

  4. Don’t you just hate when that happens! i.e. technology makes you do something over. 🙂 Yes, I started to post again. I stopped for 1 week to go on vacation, but I hope to start posting again tonight!

  5. This Is Kinda Random, lol, But Is There Any Type Of Reply “Person B (Or A)” Can Say To Get Out Of Owing A Coke ^_^ lol
    [Just Wondering]

  6. Sbrownie – That’s kind of complicated. You can say “no backs” if you are person who said that you are owed a coke. This means that the other person cannot get out of it. It ‘seals’ the deal!

  7. The answer to Pinch, poke, you owe me a coke! is:
It’s all your falt, you owe me a malt!

  8. I like that! I’ve never heard it before, but things are different in different regions. It’s so catchy! p.s. falt–>fault

  9. My friend surprised me with you cought me of guard u owe me a sprite. That’s right after I pinch poke her lol I thought that was funny

  10. As a reply to “Pinch, poke, you owe me a coke!” you could say “Circle, dot, I do not!” 😀

  11. I just used this in a Skype IM conversation with a Canadian colleague who didn’t understand the reference (we had both typed almost exactly the same thing and pressed Enter at the same moment). I did laugh at your statement “Sometimes with kids there might be a little pinching or poking, but nothing serious. And rarely does anyone ever really get a free coke.” Growing up in Southern California in the late 60’s and early 70’s the pinching and poking were absolutely required and we did collect our free Cokes – it was like a matter of contract law.

  12. If some only say “jinx you owe me a coke” to reverse it you could say “that’s not right you owe me a sprite”

  13. I’ve heard the Sprite one, but I’ve heard it as a reply to pinch, poke. It goes, “Knick and bite, you owe me a sprite.”
